📺 Sky Glass
Sky asked us to redesign the voice control onboarding for Sky Glass to make it more intuitive, inclusive, and personal for a global audience. I collaborated on a mid-fidelity prototype that simplified the setup process using only voice, reducing friction and enhancing accessibility. The results were strong: 100% of users completed profile setup, and 90% valued the personalised profiles, showing that the redesign made onboarding both effective and meaningful.

Problem
Voice onboarding wasn’t living up to its promise. We uncovered several barriers:
Hard to learn and inconsistent navigation
Overwhelming visuals with little guidance
Anxiety around privacy and always-on listening
Limited accessibility for diverse needs
Problem Statement
How might we design a voice-led onboarding that feels simple, personal, and inclusive, enabling users of all abilities to set up Sky Glass with confidencewithout needing a remote?
Research & Insights
Before ideating, we focused on understanding how people felt about using voice for setup. We created an empathy map to capture what users were thinking, feeling, and struggling with, which showed common worries around privacy, accessibility, and confidence. From there, we built a user flow to map out what an ideal voice-led onboarding journey could look like.

Final Concept
After reviewing and comparing our ideas, we defined a final concept built around four focus areas:
Early personalisation with voice profiles
Guided practice to build confidence with commands
Inclusive flows that work hands-free for all users
Clear data use with transparent privacy prompts
Usability Testing & Results
We tested the concept using a Wizard of Oz study, simulating system responses to observe how users interacted with the flow. In end-to-end onboarding tests, we tracked completion, errors, SEQ, and SUS scores. Results showed:
Lessons Learned
Through this project, I learned the importance of designing experiences that empower every user and how small choices in language, guidance, and interaction can build trust and confidence across diverse audiences.
